Rickets is caused by Vitamin D deficiency. This is common i children between 6 and 36 months old.
When a body is deficient in Vitamin D the bones become weak. They turn soft and brittle. Therefore, unable to withstand the body’s weight, the legs tend to bend outwards.
Vitamin D is found in meats, fish, eggs and dairy products. It is also known as sunshine vitamin because it is created when you are under the sun.
However, in the US, Rickets has been abolished. In some developing countries, this can still be seen.

In such cases, the person never grows more than 5 feet. Generally their height is around 4 feet only.
In 20% of the cases this disease has been found to be genetic.
Fracture is breaking of your bone. It can range from a minute crack to breaking your bones into two.
When fracture occurs in your leg or knee this can result in bow legs.

Like the usual tumours your bone can have tumours too.
However, this is a rare occurence.
Brittle Bone Disease
As the name implies your bones are brittle in this condition. The bones are so weak that one can easily fracture oneself.
This is usually found in new borns especially with a family history of this disease.
Since all your bones are weak in this condition, your legs unable to withstand your weight bends outwards resulting in bow legs.
